Wording for Bequests

The University can help you plan a bequest that best fits your wishes. When considering the University of Adelaide in your Will, it is recommended that you seek independent legal advice, and any bequest to the University of Adelaide should be made after family and friends have been considered.

The following guidelines may be used in consultation with your advisers when drafting your Will.


Unrestricted bequest:

I GIVE [my estate] or [portion/the residue of my estate] or [the sum of $____] to the University of Adelaide for its general purposes. I DECLARE that the receipt of the authorised officer of the University for the gift shall be sufficient discharge to my trustees.


Specific purpose bequest:

I GIVE [my estate] or [portion/the residue of my estate] or [the sum of $____] to the University of Adelaide and I express the wish without creating a  binding trust that the funds be used and applied for the purposes of ________ or if the purpose no longer exists then for a similar purpose at the discretion of the Council of the University of Adelaide AND I DECLARE that the receipt of the authorised officer of the University for the gift shall be sufficient discharge to my trustees.
