2010 Barr Smith Library Appeal

Patrick Allington, Author and
University of Adelaide graduate

The Barr Smith Library is a central part of life at the University of Adelaide; nearly all who have studied or worked at our North Terrace campus will have made use of its very large and diverse collections and resources, which are also accessible to the general community.

At the heart of the Library’s purpose now and into the future is the enabling of outstanding achievement by our students and staff through the provision of the best possible resources in the best possible environment. Highly regarded young author and Creative Writing graduate, Patrick Allington, is an example of the impact the Barr Smith Library continues to make on students’ chosen courses of study and subsequent careers.

Like many others, Patrick has gone from utilising the Library’s resources as an undergraduate and postgraduate student to having his own published work available from the Library for others to use and enjoy. His recent novel, Figurehead, is available for loan and a copy is also included in the University authors collection maintained in the Special Collections area – which has just reopened on Level One of the Library after undergoing a significant upgrade and refurbishment.

The annual Barr Smith Library Appeal is an important source of funds to enrich the Library experience of the growing University community. This will hopefully include many more students in all disciplines who, like Patrick Allington, go on to see their own published work reside in the Library. I encourage you to help us by supporting the 2010 Barr Smith Library Appeal, and I thank you for your generosity.

Yours Sincerely

RAY CHOATE
