In Memoriam: Emeritus Professor of Biochemistry William Herdman (Bill) Elliott

Emeritus Professor of Biochemistry William Herdman (Bill) Elliott died on 25 July. Professor Elliott was Head of the Biochemistry Department for 25 years and a giant figure at the University of Adelaide, and in the field of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology across the nation. He was much revered and inspired many to take on careers in science, brought Molecular Biology research to South Australia, instigated the first University-derived biotechnology company (BRESA) and wrote text books for Oxford University Press. His far-reaching legacy is celebrated annually by the WH Elliott Lecture given at the University of Adelaide. The Discipline of Biochemistry (School of Molecular and Biomedical Science) also funds a Research Fellowship in his name. He is survived by his wife Daphne and children Jane, Michael and David.
