The aims of the Network are to:
- Promote and foster interest and support for the University libraries and their development from Alumni and the wider community;
- Increase and broaden knowledge of the collections and services of
the University libraries and their role in writing, research,
scholarship and community information;
- Develop relationships with other libraries, with cultural
organizations and with appropriate commercial organizations for the
benefit of members in Australia and overseas and
- Raise funds for the University libraries.
The benefits of becoming a Friend
- Invitations to functions, and joint functions with other libraries and cultural organisations.
- Invitations and reduced rates to concerts sponsored by the Barr Smith Library.
- Reciprocal rights at some other cultural institutions in Australia
and overseas through associated membership of the AFFM (Australian
Federation of Friends of Museums) and the WFFM (World Federation of
Friends of Museums).
- Opportunities to support the restoration, preservation and digitisation of rare works.

These events offer Friends the opportunity to hear and engage with distinguished names in writing and scholarship. The events are free and open to all, with gold coin donation invited. Join the Friends to be kept informed of future Author and Scholar events.
Barr Smith Discovery Series
The Barr Smith Discovery Series is an occasional one hour lunch time series offering first hand accounts of discoveries in the Barr Smith Library and the use of the collections for research. The series is free and open to all. The inaugural occasion was with Jean Fornasiero and John West-Sooby speaking on Reading Baudin's Books, 'Rediscovering a Discoverer'. Watch this space for future occasions.

Click here to connect to the audio version of many of the Author and
Scholar presentations. Then click on the heading Friends of the
University of Adelaide Libraries. The list of recordings appears when
you click on browse_title or browse_author. Then click on desired title
or author and then view/open.

Independent Theatre partnership
| | Friends receive a $25 concession ticket price and may also subscribe
at the concession rate of $60 for all three Independent
Theatre productions of the year.
Subscribers also receive a free program for each production. Friends are also
offered direct booking facilities, avoiding the BASS booking fee. Friends can
call 8294 4551 and book their tickets by Visa or Mastercard, tickets
to be collected at the Box Office 15 minutes prior to performances with your Friends
membership card.
All productions are at The Odeon, Queen St/The Parade, Norwood. For more details
